5. You are required to choose your Academic Referees and only official email address is acceptable. For Academic Referees nomination, fresh graduate must provide two (2) academic referees from your current or recent university graduate and for working applicants must provide one (1) academic referee from your most recent higher education course you took and another one (1) academic referee is your current employer.

6. For potential supervisor section, you can refer to our academic expertise in UMS Expertise Directory. Note: If you have not identified your advisor you can leave it blank.

7. For declaration section, please ensure that you have uploaded all documents required by Centre for Postgraduate Studies in order to proceed in this section. All uploaded documents must be in jpeg, pdf and doc/docx format not more than 500 KB.

8. NO hardcopy documents are required upon application. However, please keep all your documents that you have uploaded because those documents are to be submitted during registration day. You are advised to ensure the following supporting documents were uploaded:

The department of Faculty/Centre/Institute of your chosen programme will assess the academic quality and suitability of your application and the result will be announced at your application portal. Please refer to your portal at http://mohon.ums.edu.my/pasca from time to time to see the current status.

1. Application is open throughout the year. You can apply for February or September intake.

2. Application received after deadline will be processed for the next intake.

3. The university reserves the right to approve your admission into a programme that is deemed academically suitable for you.

Master of Philosophy Programme (M.Phil)

• A Bachelor’s degree with Honours with CGPA of 3.00 and above from Universiti Malaysia Sabah or any other institution of higher learning recognized by the Senate of Universiti Malaysia Sabah;
• Master of Philosophy candidates may be admitted into a Doctor of Philosophy programme depending on a satisfactory study progress in the first year.

Doctor of Philosophy Programme (By Research)

• A Master’s degree from Universiti Malaysia Sabah or any other institution of higher learning recognized by the Senate of Universiti Malaysia Sabah; or other qualification equivalent to a Master’s degree and relevant experiences recognized by the Senate of Universiti Malaysia Sabah.

Master Programme (By Coursework)

• A Bachelor’s degree with minimum CGPA of 2.50 or equivalent from Universiti Malaysia Sabah or any other higher institution recognized by the Senate of Universiti Malaysia Sabah; or
• A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent not meeting CGPA of 2.50, can be accepted subject to a minimum of 5 years working experience in relevant field; or
• Applicants are subject to meet additional requirement specified by Faculties/Centre/Institutes.

Master in Public Health (By Coursework)

• Candidate holds a Bachelor Degree in Medicine & Surgery (MBBS) OR Doctor of Medicine Degree (M.D.) OR equivalent undergraduate medical qualifications that is recognized by UMS Senate;
• Candidate must have successfully completed 2 years Houseman Training (Housemanship);
• Candidate must have minimum 2 years of clinical experience post-full Registration that is certified by the relevant authorities (e.g: Malaysian Medical Council).
• Candidate from non-english speaking countries must submit a valid English Language test results: IELTS - minimum BAND 5; OR TOEFL - minimum 500/173.

Master Programme (Mixed Mode)

• A Bachelor’s degree with minimum CGPA of 2.75 or equivalent from Universiti Malaysia Sabah or any other higher institution recognized by the Senate of Universiti Malaysia Sabah; or
• A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with minimum CGPA of 2.50 and not meeting CGPA of 2.75, can be accepted subject to internal assessment approved by the Senate of Universiti Malaysia Sabah; or
• A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent not meeting CGPA of 2.50, can be accepted subject to a minimum of 5 years working experience in relevant field.

Postgraduate Diploma

• Postgraduate Diploma Requirement.

Application

1. Candidates who are still in the final semester of a Bachelor Degree programme are allowed to apply depending on the recommendation of the Dean/Director of their respective Faculty/Centre/Institute;
2.  Candidates who do not satisfy the general conditions but possess work experience exceeding five [5] years in related fields may have their applications considered depending on the conditions set by the Faculty/Centre/Institute and approved by the Senate;
3. Candidates who are currently working must acquire permission from their respective heads of department or employers before pursuing their studies;
4. Each application must first be considered at the Faculty/Centre/Institute’s Postgraduate Studies Committee level before an offer letter is issued by Centre for Postgraduate Studies; and
5. Incomplete application will not be processed and rejected.

International Applicant are REQUIRED to;

1. Submit substantial evidence of financial status such as bank and sponsor’s guarantee letters and other supporting documents to ensure that the candidates are financially able to further their studies at Universiti Malaysia Sabah;
2. Candidates from non-English speaking countries must submit an English language test result of either IELTS [minimum Band 5] or TOEFL [minimum 500/173].
